Needs we are giving to as a group

The Alumni Fellowship successfully raised more than $2,500 to completely fund phase #2 of the Historic Wheeler Mission Chapel Project. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Artist Steven Kelso will begin the two murals inside the chapel after Winter Contingency is finished. Be sure to check out the progress of this beautiful artwork the next time you are at the Mission.

The Hebron Alumni Fellowship successfully raised money for new sound system equipment and instruments for the Morton Chapel. This was an incredible accomplishment and we are excited of how this will effect men for years to come. Check out the updated results for this project. Downside Out playing at a recent Homecoming
If you are interested in giving along with our Alumni Group, please contact Brian Crispin at briancrispin@wmm.org for details.

Testimony

Josh - Hebron Program & Servant Leadership Training Graduate

Josh and his nephew, Julius

Hi, my name is Josh, and I just celebrated my 26th birthday on August 6, 2010 - only by the grace of God did this occur. I have been walking faithfully with the Lord since June of 2009. Prior to this, I was living a life of complete sin, with absolutely no acknowledgment of God. Proverbs 16:25 says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” This was how I lived my life, following the ways of the world and my selfish desires, which was killing me. Along with that life, addictions to opiates and alcohol developed.

I realized that I was slave to my addictions in 2005 and had a vision of changing, but I had no plan and no leader to follow. Quickly my vision became an illusion. I was in and out of meetings and rehabs. I successfully gave up alcohol for a season but held on to my secret addiction to opiates. As my alcohol decreased, my opiates increased.

On Fathers Day 2006, I was unable to attain opiates and, due to the withdrawals, I resorted back to drinking. I ended up at a bar, got in a fight, and wound up at my parent’s house. I was searching through the garage looking for a bottle I thought I had hidden and found an old pipe bomb I had made in high school. By this time, I was a pyromaniac; I became addicted to everything and anything that would allow me to escape the reality and guilt of my life. Explosives produced adrenaline, which I used as a drug.

I was so depressed and ashamed of my life that I lit the bomb off in my hand, knowing that the shrapnel would kill me. But it didn’t. Physics can’t explain why the shrapnel missed my entire body except for my hand, but God can. In His sovereignty, He knew that some day I would be a follower of His Son, Jesus Christ, and for that reason, I believe He spared my life yet again; however, I still did not acknowledge God in my life and shrugged when I heard doctors, nurses, family, and friends say that God spared me for a reason.

For 3 more years, I was in and out of rehabs, stole from friends and family, and burned all the bridges in my life. In May of 2009, I lost my job due to my life of sin. God had shut all the doors in my life, so I could no longer continue living the way I was. I called Westbrook Church looking for help and was able to meet with a Pastor. After sharing my story with him, he looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Josh, you are 24 years old and have tried and done everything a man in addiction can do to get help, except the one thing that works, which is accepting Jesus Christ into your heart.” I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior that day and have not been the same since.

A few days later, God presented me with the opportunity to move to Indiana in order to attend a Christian-based regeneration program for men in addiction. June 3, 2009, I began my journey at Wheeler Mission Ministries and that vision I had in 2005 became a reality, as the Bible became my plan and Jesus became my leader. I graduated the program in March and stayed on for a second year to do their Servant Leadership Training program. I now serve the men in the addiction program and help teach classes on how to attain a relationship with God and how to live life by biblical principles and spiritual disciplines. The chance to stay here and mature in Christ has been the best thing I've ever done. God has blessed me beyond comprehension and with way more than I deserve. Amen.

Your Brother in Christ,
Josh

Homecomings

This incredible event began in 2008 and sees dozens of graduates of the Hebron Program return from all over the world to Camp Hunt for a weekend of fellowship and prayer. This is a great way to get refreshed, spiritually and is a popular way to stay connected with the men the alumni were side-by side with in the program.

Prayer Breakfasts

These bi-monthly events are held downtown and can see up to 50 alumni praying together and hearing the Word of God from one of our popular guest speakers. What an amazing testimony it is to have this group spending the early parts of a Saturday morning praising God for the new life He has given by His grace!
